Infertility Treatments

Having trouble getting pregnant? We are here to help.

There are so many reasons why a couple has difficulties conceiving. Of course, why speculate about what might be going on when our Brownsville, TX OBGYN is here to help? Here at J. Gabriel Guajardo, M.D., we are committed to providing you with compassionate fertility treatments so that you can make your dreams of being a parent a reality.

When should you be evaluated by an OBGYN?

If you are under 35 years old and have been trying to get pregnant for one year, or if you are over 35 years old and haven’t gotten pregnant in six months, this is a good time to come in to see us for an evaluation.

If you have had irregular periods or a history of miscarriages and are having trouble getting pregnant then an evaluation might be able to shed some light on your fertility problems.

What goes into a fertility evaluation?

We perform extensive evaluations to understand as much as possible about both you and your partner’s medical history. We will ask you about surgeries, health problems, medications you are taking, as well as questions about your reproductive health such as STDs, miscarriages, etc. While it can feel a bit uncomfortable to discuss these things with us it’s important that you be as honest as possible so that we can provide you with the best treatment plan.

Fertility testing for women may include:

  • A full physical examination
  • Blood tests
  • Pelvic ultrasound and exam
  • A biopsy of the uterine lining

What are my infertility treatment options in Brownsville, Harlingen, TX?

While many couples may immediately think of in-vitro fertilization (IVF), know that there are other treatment options that may be just as effective. In fact, many couples are able to successfully conceive through drugs or surgery alone.

Sometimes if there are hormonal imbalances present that are interfering with your ability to become pregnant, we may prescribe fertility medications to help balance out these hormone levels.

Intrauterine insemination may also be utilized to help the sperm successfully get to the egg. This treatment may be performed in conjunction with fertility drugs.

If an ovarian cyst, endometriosis, or an obstructed fallopian tube is preventing you from becoming pregnant, surgery is often the best course of action for treating the problem. If these treatment options fail to work, or if low sperm count or other problems are causing fertility issues then IVF may be the best course of action.
